We are seeking an Import/Export Compliance Manager to join our growing Supply Chain department.
The Import/Export Compliance Manager serves as the point of contact for internal stakeholders (such as Warehouse, Supply Chain, Customer Success) and external vendors/service providers on all import and export activities. This role will ensure that HARTING Americas follows international trade laws (like EAR, ITAR, Customs, etc.) by developing policies, training staff, managing documentation (HTS classification, CoO, ECCN, etc.), auditing processes, and liaising with customs authorities, all to prevent risks, optimize trade, and support global operations and will ensure customer requirements and company objectives are met amid increased international logistics complexity.
To succeed in this role, you will be highly driven to:
- Proactively manage the Import/Export needs for the Americas – focusing on United States, Canada and Mexico.
- Serve as the escalation point of contact for carriers/brokers, providing necessary information to facilitate timely North American Customs clearance
- Ensure that export documentation as required e.g.: commercial invoices, Canadian/Mexico invoices, packing lists, respond to customers with certificate of origin and HTS code information or customer specific certificates, such as USMCA, Buy America
- Work closely with the Warehouse teams in the United States, Canada and Mexico to support inbound & outbound shipments to ensure compliance
- Work closely with legal to ensure all trade-related activities are compliant with applicable laws, regulations and company policies and ensure compliance through accurate documentation, record keeping and periodic auditing of such laws and policies
- Work with the Engineering and Product Development teams to support the identification of HTS, ECCN, CoO (Country of Origin), Tariffs, and Trade Compliance is achieved.
- Work with, and supports the Legal team to ensure compliance with trade and other aspects is being met
- Create, update and maintain procedures as related to import/export compliance policies/procedures
- Perform periodic audits of import shipments to ensure reasonable practices and make changes where needed
- Continually improve import/export regulation knowledge and serve as “Subject Matter Expert” on international trade supply chain best practices
- Participate in cross functional trade compliance working group to review risks, regulatory changes, audits and mitigation strategies
- Analyze 3rd party freights database and identify and initiate corrective actions to drive cost savings
- Investigate and resolve import / export discrepancies and customer complaints
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Support Product Management and Engineering team for HTS (Harmonized Tariff Standards), CoO (Country of Origin) ECCN for new products
- Obtain and create shipment and expedite quotes, sourcing the best transportation methods
- Measure and control expedite costs, prioritizing cost savings, timeliness, and service quality
- Support the business in responding to customer and government inquiries, audits or enforcement actions involving trade compliance
- This role will have a dotted line to Global Logistics CoE (Center of Excellence), and will work with support as needed, while ensuring global best practices will be maintained in the Americas Region
Skills and experience to thrive in this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in logistics or equivalent work experience
- 5-7 years of experience with international trade regulations preferred
- Experience with import/export documentation, US/international trade law is required
- Experience with the USMCA, and Mexican trade law is valuable
- Utilizes proactive approach
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (written and verbal)
- Able to coordinate complexity, deal with ambiguity, and resolve conflicts quickly
- Strong work ethic and good problem-solving skills
- Microsoft Windows, Excel and Word skills required
- SAP experience is a plus
- Bi-Lingual (Spanish) is highly desired
- Good Mathematical Skills
- Willing and able to travel Domestically and Internationally when needed

HARTING USA offers an attractive total compensation package and employee benefits, including:
Compensation:
- HARTING's Total Compensation Structure includes a Base Salary and Bonus Percentage.
- Competitive base salary: $80,000 - $100,000 (commensurate with experience, subject to change dependent on physical location).
- This role is eligible for a 10% discretionary annual bonus.
