We are seeking a Systems Engineer Intern based in Elgin, IL (Northwest of Chicago) to support our Custom Solutions Engineering team in the process of collecting customer specifications, drafting designs, quoting, and facilitating the production process of custom cable assembly solutions.
HARTING's Intern Development Program (Summer 2025) consists of full-time, paid, and on-site internships. Our internships are an opportunity to work on hands-on projects with your team, to work cross-functionally with other departments, and gain exposure to the technical aspects of our company. Please note: we do not provide housing in Illinois.
You will have the opportunity to be exposed to the following:
- Actively participate in gaining understanding of our product line of industrial-grade electrical connectors (their specifications, recommended applications, current and potential customer base) and how customer choices with components impact subsequent customized cable assembly product projects.
- Gain familiarity with the nature of customer-specific product projects, the status of current projects, and our internal production capabilities for custom product projects.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with areas such engineering and manufacturing to establish upon production times and communication for design iterations.
- Estimate production times, materials, and tooling to generate a quotation for the customer.
- Liaison with outside vendors for products and materials needed to manufacture cable assembly solutions.
- Provide review of all technical specifications and drawings.
Skills and experience to thrive in this role:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Experience with Technical drawings and specs
- Experience with prototyping and fabrication a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with Data Analysis, tools like PowerBI a plus
