Procurement Engineer

We are seeking a Procurement Engineer (based in Elgin, Illinois) to be the primary contact in procurement for new product development projects and collaborate across teams. The Procurement Engineer is responsible for leveraging a strategic approach to project purchasing in alignment with procurement best practices.  

 

Reporting to the Regional Purchasing Manager - Americas, the Procurement Engineer will be a key contributor in Global Procurement / Purchasing to support the needs of New Product Development. Our New Product Development initiatives are based in-the-region, for-the-region in collaboration with industry partners.  

 

To succeed in this role, you will be highly driven to:

 

  • Perform project sourcing in product development process and initiate supplier qualification process 

  • Contribute to supplier selection and negotiate contracts for project procurement (under consideration of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and target costs aspects) for new products

  • Implement category strategy in product development process from earliest stage 

  • Interface between product development, quality, and purchasing in order to improve launch timing, to control price and supplier competition, and to show aligned supplier-facing organization

  • Actively share best practice across regions, leveraging global purchase function for standardized sourcing

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Skills and experience to thrive in this role:

 

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent technical experience
  • 3+ years of experience in procurement engineering and supplier management 
  • Strong knowledge of project procurement, including supplier landscape, function-specific needs, key market developments, and supplier price/cost-structure 
  • High degree of independence and strong analytical capabilities to design/implement strategic initiatives and steer procurement performance
  • Proven interpersonal skills, managing and aligning stakeholders

HARTING USA offers an attractive total compensation package and employee benefits, including:

Compensation:

  • HARTING's Total Compensation Structure includes a Base Salary and Bonus Percentage. 
  • Competitive base salary: $80,000 - $114,000 (commensurate with experience, subject to change dependent on physical location)
  • This role is eligible for a 5% discretionary annual bonus.
