We are seeking a Master Data Specialist (Hybrid; based in Elgin, IL) to join our growing team. The Master Data Specialist supports new product and operational initiatives by maintaining accurate master data, coordinating project-related documentation activities, and ensuring compliance with internal governance standards. This role serves as a key support function across Project Management, Product Management, Engineering, and Operations by helping define, create, validate, and maintain critical data and documentation in SAP and related systems.

This position is heavily focused on master data governance and integrity, while also supporting project execution through documentation control, part setup, BOM and routing maintenance, engineering change coordination, and cross-functional project tracking. The role acts as a gatekeeper for data accuracy, process compliance, and documentation readiness to support efficient execution of new product and operational activities.

To succeed in this role, you will be highly driven to: 

Master Data Governance and SAP Administration

  • Support the definition, documentation, and continuous improvement of master data rules and governance processes.
  • Review and validate master data to ensure plausibility, consistency, accuracy, and compliance with established governance standards.
  • Create, maintain, and update SAP master data, including raw materials, part numbers, bills of materials, routings, and related attributes.
  • Support master data creation and maintenance for new product projects, change requests, relocation activities, duplication projects, and other business operations.
  • Monitor adherence to master data governance requirements and support KPI-based data quality improvements.
  • Maintain data integrity by updating records based on engineering changes, manufacturing feedback, and approved business requirements.  

 

Documentation Control and Change Management

 

  • Create, maintain, and update product documentation used in support of new products and related operational activities.
  • Facilitate document routing and approval workflows to ensure documentation is complete and properly controlled.
  • Maintain engineering change notice logs and route change documentation to the appropriate departments.
  • Track documentation updates and related records through the manufacturing and implementation process.
  • Support Engineering with document control activities in compliance with internal quality standards and ISO requirements.
  • Serve as a point of contact for document control activities during audits and inspections.

 

Cross-Functional Data and Process Support

 

  • Partner with Engineering, New Projects, Product Management, and Operations to support accurate data setup and documentation readiness.
  • Provide SAP and documentation support throughout new product introduction and change processes.
  • Assist with part setup activities related to development builds, kits, and approved new product introductions.
  • Support investigation and correction of data-related discrepancies, including issues affecting system accuracy, costing, and related records.
  • Maintain organized documentation of processes, rules, and workflow requirements to support team knowledge and process consistency. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a structured, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced SAP knowledge required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively across functions and maintain a high level of accuracy and accountability.
  • Commitment to data quality, documentation integrity, and process compliance.   
  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferred fields include Business Administration, Information Technology, Data Management, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in master data management, documentation control, SAP administration, engineering support, manufacturing support, or a related function.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or new product introduction environment preferred.
  • Exposure to master data governance and document control processes strongly preferredSelf-driven and proactive, always looking for ways to optimize efficiencies while focused on internal customer satisfaction

HARTING USA offers an attractive total compensation package and employee benefits, including:

Compensation:

  • HARTING's Total Compensation Structure includes a Base Salary and Bonus Percentage.
  • Competitive base salary: $75,000 - $90,000 (commensurate with experience, subject to change dependent on physical location).
  • This role is eligible for a 5% discretionary annual bonus.
