We are seeking a EHS Specialist (based in Elgin, Illinois) that supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs within our manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while driving a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization. The EHS Specialist works closely with quality, operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to reduce risk, prevent injuries, and maintain a safe and sustainable workplace.


To succeed in this role, you will be highly driven to:

 

  • Support site management and supervision to ensure compliance with all applicable EHS regulations, corporate policies, and site procedures.
  • Maintain and administer site EHS systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Lead incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action development.
  • Prepare, develop and deliver employee training programs, including new-hire orientation, PPE use, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, ergonomics, workplace safety, regulatory topics, and emergency response.
  • Maintain and update safety procedures, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Track and analyze safety metrics, reporting trends and recommending improvements.
  • Assist with environmental programs including waste management, air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, and chemical storage.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, state environmental agencies, and local regulations.
  • Maintain environmental records, permits, and reporting requirements.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, training records, and compliance logs.
  • Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices.
  • Support emergency response planning, drills, and training.
  • Serve as a member of the facility’s emergency response team.
  • Perform additional EHS-related duties as assigned.

 

Skills And Experience to Thrive In This Role

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Environmental Health, Chemistry, or a related scientific field
  • Excellent knowledge of the MS OFFICE product family.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and basic environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience with ISO 9001/14001/45001 or similar management systems.
  • CSP or CIH certification strongly preferred
  • Ability to develop and deliver training using various media formats
  • Strong observational, organizational, training, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

HARTING USA offers an attractive total compensation package and employee benefits, including:

 

Compensation

HARTING's Total Compensation Structure includes a Base Salary and Bonus Percentage.

  • Competitive base salary: $70,000 - $90,000 (commensurate with experience, subject to change dependent on physical location).
  • This role is eligible for a 5% discretionary annual bonus.
